KING OF THE AIR BIG BAY, BLOUBERG 21ST JAN - 5TH FEB 2017
The Red Bull King of The Air is the largest big-air kiteboarding contest in the world. It takes place once a year in Cape Towns Big Bay and sees some of the best riders from around the world, all fighting to be crowned the King Of The Air. The competition window has started meaning the event is on standby for the wind which needs to blow consistently over 30 knots, as well as enough swell for the riders to boost their mind blowing aerial maneuvers. Here is a taste of what happens;
The very first Red Bull King of The Air took place at the famous windsurfing spot, Ho’okipa, on the Hawaiian islands of Maui in 2000. For five years Red Bull King Of The Air staged the largest one-off annual event at a phenomenal spot. After eight years running, which saw massive developments in kite technology, 2012 saw the 'Red Bull Len10 Megaloop Challenge' take place at Big Bay. It was the predecessor to the relaunch of Red Bull King of the Air, which has run at Big Bay since 2013.
