Bye-bye Hanna, hello Ike! Hannas big brother is alot more formidable than the strong tropical storm that just came ashore last night in between North and South Carolina. At this point the forecasts are leaning towards a southerly track across the Florida Keys and into the Gulf of Mexico, but we should still keep a close eye on Ike. Either way it is going to increase our local pressure gradient and give us solid wind Tuesday and Wednesday, with increasing long-period ground swell through early in the week. Long-range models are now showing Ikes landfall along the Louisiana-Mississippi border next weekend, but it is WAY too early to tell exactly where it will hit. But if I had to guess I would say somewhere between Louisiana and the panhandle of Florida. Depending on the exact track and speed of Ike, the panhandle could be in for some good swell and wind late in the week. It could be worth a drive. There are some sick areas for kiteboarding in Cape San Blas and Panama City, both in the surf and flat water lagoons. If it looks good we may send a team to get some action, and do some filming. Anyone interested? We are holding a planning meeting for our Halloween event this coming week. Once the details are in place, we will launch a mini-site dedicated to the event to keep you informed of the schedule. The meeting will be at 8 p.m. at Mardi Gras in St. Augustine, located north of downtown at 123 San Marco Ave. towards the Vilano bridge turnoff. DJ Raggamuffin will be hosting Shredsday Nights after the meeting. Come check out Ragga and the Roaring Sound Dj crew, surfing, kiteboarding, skateboarding, snow and more extreme spots on the BIG screens. Free hot dogs, nachos and popcorn.
Remember, no weather forecast is as good
as actual observation. Always check the local conditions before
heading out! Be especially aware of approaching storms on the radar.
